Maui boy is 3rd runner-up at the Keiki Hula Festival

HONOLULU – Edward "Eddie Boy" Kalaniki Maxwell Juan was third runner-up in the 20th annual Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Festival at Blaisdell Arena the last weekend in July.

The 7-year-old is a student at Waihee School and dances with the Pukalani Hula Hale under the direction of his grandmother and mother, na Kumu Hula Nina Maxwell and Hi'ilei Maxwell-Juan.

Accompanied by his brother, Gregory Juan, along with Sheldon Brown, Van Jon Paio and Joe Kamana, Eddie danced "Pa'ani Kolepa," a song about how golfing is challenging for young and old alike.

The festival will be broadcast at 6 p.m. Friday and 6:30 p.m. Saturday on KITV Channel 4.

Wailuku-based developer Everett Dowling sponsored the halau's trip to the Oahu festival.
