Leader of Kamehameha stature needed today

The Maui News
Letter to the Editor
Sunday, June 13, 2004

A June 8 letter shows a short-sighted view of Hawaiian history and the methods of Kamehameha The Great to conquer the islands and unify Hawaii.

When Kamehameha started his quest of bringing the islands together, it was a common practice for these battles to take place and acquisition of land and resources were the goal. Battles were fought among Hawaiians and not with other countries for hundreds of years before Kamehameha was born.

America attacked Queen Liliu'okalani with the help of the white missionaries here because the land was perfect for sugar and pineapple and not because the queen had any weapons of mass destruction. My mother always told me: "Make sure you clean your house, before you talk about others."

We need a Kamehameha today to unite the Hawaiian people against the onslaught of attacks from non-Hawaiians and wannabe Hawaiians who want to take down the Kamehameha Schools, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and all the Hawaiian entitlements that are due us for the taking of our Hawaiian nation. Please remember, we were once warriors.

Imua Kamehameha inu ika wai'awa'awa (Kamehameha's battle cry).

BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KAMEHAMEHA AND PRESIDENT BUSH

Your Tuesday June 8th "Letters to the Editor" submitted by Mr. Eric Stelene, shows how short sighted his views are as it pertains to Hawaiian History and the methods of Kamehameha The Great to Conquer the islands and unify HawaiĜi. Be aware of the facts that when Kamehameha started his quest of bringing the islands together, it was a common practice for these battles to take place and acquisition of land and resources were the goal. The battles were fought among themselves and not with other countries. All the Kings of HawaiĜi fought for power hundreds of years before Kamehameha was born.

Look at how your ancestors came into possession of the United States Mr. Stelene and you will see how they attempted to annihilate the Native Americans and steal their land and kill men, women and children to accomplish their greed and lust for more land and material wealth that the resources of the land had to offer.

After stealing the land, they brought in slaves from Africa to tend the field and bred them like you do cattle to insure that they would have a healthy stock of slaves to work their fields and be servants to their White Masters.

America's history is very shameful considering their acts of the past. They attacked Queen Liliuokalani with the help of the white missionaries here because the land was perfect for sugar and pineapple and not because the Queen had any weapons of mass destruction. If you read Hawaiian History you will find that she was even imprisoned by the children of the missionaries that first came here to "do good instead they did well".

Look at what happened to Iraq and President Bush who invaded that country looking for weapons of mass destruction and in the process many of our own have died and thousands of innocent people in Iraq, perished in the attacks. Now when you compare Kamehameha to America's history, there is no comparison. Kamehameha is still "the greatest". My mother always told me, "Make sure you clean your house, before you talk about others". I totally agree in your last sentence "someone has to say these things, it might as well be me" This is true only if you know what you're talking about.

We need a Kamehameha today to unite the Hawaiian people against the onslaught of attacks from non-Hawaiians and wannabe Hawaiians who want to take down the Kamehameha Schools, O.H.A and all the Hawaiian entitlements that are due us for the taking of our Hawaiian Nation. Please remember, we were once warriors.

Talking about Kamehameha' statue in Honolulu, whenever you see it, look at his open hand which can easily mean, "Give our land back".

Imua Kamehameha, Inu Ika Wai ĜavaĜava (Kamehameha's battle cry)
