Dear Moani: The answers lie in understanding the foundation (huna) of each word. Words like "kahiki" or "tahiti" (which are the same word) do not necessarily relate to place-names as we know them today. Old stories, chants, and myths are ways to preserve ancient knowledge and values. Use the reference that Uncle Charlie has referred you to - the Kumulipo, it is filled with many layers of meaning. If you can show your teacher that you are beginning to understand what a myth really means (the preservation of ancient knowledge) I think you will get a good grade. Continue your search - this is just the beginning of a long, but exciting, path. Aloha, Antie Fay
