: I am a kindergarten teacher. We are doing a Christmas around the World unit. I have chosen Hawaii, as I was born there. We moved from there when I was still very young and therefore, do not know much of the Christmas traditions, but would like to learn. I would appreciate any good websites or information that you could provide. Thanks!

Aloha Pakorkiet, actually Christmas is not a Hawaiian tradition. It is a Christian holiday. We became Christians when the missionaries arrived in 1820, so paying tribute to the birth of Christ was followed here after we were Christianized. Prior to that we did not observe Christmas. We celebrate christmas in the same way you do except that our Christmases are "green" and Santa comes in on a canoe, with his elves paddling him in shore. Aloha Uncle Charlie
