: : Uncle Charlie,

: : I have two subjects. First I saw a documentary on the annexation of Hawaii and I could not believe how disgraceful the people from United States could be. No matter how many bills the President signs, it won't make up for the pain and suffering. I have been a visitor to the islands many times and this actually made me not want to visit anymore. Who would want to support what the early missonaries created and pushed the native hawaiians away. Not me. My wife's family is from Tonga and I hope the Tongan islands can stay pure because this behavior is unexceptable.

: : Second, another documentary had the subject of Puana Leo Schools around the islands. Does Maui have any? Do you have to have only Hawaiian blood? Are the schools public or private?
: : Thanks for your time.

: : Mahalo,

: Aloha Jeff, yes decendants of the missionaries who own most of the Hawaiian lands and America should be totally ashamed what they did to our race and culture. Thats why, we should go around waring signs that said, "We Gave". The Hawaiian language school ('Olelo Hawaii) is called Punana Leo. It is for everyone child that wants to learn to speak the new Hawaiian language. Believe it or not, the missionaries changed our langauage so that they could learn it and print it so when I say "new", it is a product of their making. Because we were punished if we spoke our language, this original language are spoken mostly by the Kupuna(elders) and that style is dying out. Hope I answered your questions, Uncle Charlie

Uncle Charlie, yes you answered my questions thank you. But I have some more. Don't take offense, but do you have hard feelings towards America and the visitors to the islands?

Do you speak the "original" or "new" language?

Another thing...I couldn't believe the number, but in 1893 there were 40,000 pure Hawaiians. 1993 something like 8,000. Some experts believe in 2044 there will be no more pure Hawaiians.
The nerve of the early missionaries. They make me sick.

Jeff
