Dear Uncle,
Please forgive my intrusion:

I am one of the "persons" who the issue is directed
at. Firstly, I am Hawaiian, secondly, I just happen to
be gay.. I too do not believe that my fondness and ever
growing love of my partner should be called a "marriage".
I feel, just as what I assume most heterosexual person do,
that marriage is a straight ceremony- I do not wish to
be lumped into the same catagory. On the other hand I
don't know what I'd call it. Domestic Partnership??
One size no fit all!! I do however, feel that my
partner and I deserve to have the same rights as
heterosexuals do. I deserve to inherit what earthly
belongings he owns, as does he mine. I deserve to
collect on insurance claims, to be insured under
the same insurance carrier as a (for lack of a
better word)"spouse". I deserve to decide when and
if to pull his life support should that day come.
As I pray that he would be able to make that
choice for me. Yes, you are correct- Marriage is
not the word, I would be more than pleased if
there were an easy solution. BUT! It's an imperfect
world. Full of imperfect persons.(Myself Included)
. So please, don't vote for the terminology-
or the lack there of. Just please vote for my fundamental
rights- it matters little to me what terminology
is used to define me and my 15 year relationship.
Hope Again, sorry for this interuption. I just
had to say something. Mahalo to you for your stand
on injustices. My thanks to the two who were brave
enough to ask the question. Mahalo to the three of you
A hui hou malama pono. Gene
