Aloha Uncle,
Firstly allow me to thank you for such a wonderful site.

I am Tahitian/Hawaiian/Chinese/Portugese/Haole. It has been very hard
for me to obtain information about my ancestors, my roots, my culture.
I live in Montana. I didn't have the opportunity of growing up in Maui
as did my mother and her ohana. I know some of my Hawaiian culture but
would like to learn more. Not too many Hula or luau in Montana.
You mentioned a sacred ceremony on the volcano. I was wondering if I
would be welcome-or if I would not be considered Hawaiian enough to
attend such a ceremony. Wonder too, exactly how much Hawaiian must one be
to attend these? Are there any programs in Hawaii that are targeted to
teach adults the language? Id like to learn it. Any ideas
on who to turn to for more information on Tahitian Geneology? I sure loved
Maui when I was there last year. It has called to me since I was a child
and going there as an adult has really made it seem even louder.
I really miss my aunties there in Maui. It was so hard to board the plane
I cried while I watched my precious Maui grow smaller in the distance and then
dissapear. Why don't Hawaiians have the same rights as Native Americans?
Aren't Hawaiians Native too?? It really confuses me. Sorry I seem to be
rambling...Thanks for a wonderful, wonderful website
A hui hou malama pono,
Gene
