: : When traveling to the Big Island for the first time, I had no idea that there seems to been such abject poverty there. The rusted tin roofs that wait the coveted rain and the old abandoned vehicles in the driveways.
: : This was such a contrast to the PARADISE version of the islands that tourists are feed. What happened to the sugar kane industry, and what will happen to the pineapple industry if that too is shut down.
: : What do the locals do for work?
: Thank you for being so observant. All these years people come from everyone, buy up all the land and made billions. They polluted the ocean, land and streams, then when the economy drops, we are left with their rubbish. Now for us Native people to survice its almost impossible. No fish, no native foods we can subsist on and all the water is taken by the sugar company, pineapple company and big business. Taking of our land was shameful but what they did to it is worse.
