Yours is an eloquent post of how I also feel. Mahalo nui!
As for Max Long his heir, Serge King and their followers, I have gotten into it a few times with the likes of them. They profess that theirs is a new religion, while related to Hawaiian Ho'omana (which I never heard our reverence and worship of our akua kahiko as ho'omana), is completely separate. I have even heard that they follow some Goddess who set the sky on fire, and that they walk on coals. Soooo Giligan's Island. But not the Hawaii I know.
I counter that if their religion is valid on its own merit, why use trendy tidbits of our people? For National Geographic factor? If it's thought processes and spiritual choices belong to a people of this planet, then they need to use their genuine cultural nuances and stop ripping off ours for glamour sake.
While I wish not to insult anyone, Huna and its Hunatic followers are leeches on my culture. They need to beat their own tapa for their own bags.
